From writing to numbers: Travis Styer’s journey with Eagle

Travis Styer is currently studying AAT Level 3 with Eagle Education, and his story is one of discovery, passion, and a desire for a career that aligns with his logical mindset.
We sat down with Travis to hear about his journey into accounting, his experience with Eagle, and his plans for the future.

Discovering a new path

For Travis, the decision to pursue accounting wasn’t always on the cards. However, after starting AAT Level 2, his interest quickly solidified:

“When I started Level 2, that’s when it became clear that this is what I want to do. I enjoy it – and not many people can say they enjoy studying this. But I really like it!”

Transitioning from a background in writing, Travis found accounting’s objectivity and structure appealing.

“Accounting is so logical and black and white, which fits the way I think. Writing, on the other hand, can be subjective and unpredictable. This career just feels right.”

Choosing Eagle

Skills for the future

Through his studies, Travis is sharpening both hard and soft skills, from mastering Excel to honing time and task management. These skills are integral to his long-term goals:

“I plan to move on to Level 4 and then ACCA. Eventually, I’d like to start my own practice as a bookkeeper and expand into financial advice and accounting for partnerships.”

While accounting may seem routine to some, Travis finds joy in its logical nature:

“I love how objectively truthful accounting is. It’s so black and white – there’s one right answer, and I find that satisfying.”

Looking ahead
